The University of Limerick in Ireland, in conjunction with Cork’s Tyndall Institute and other research organizations in the country, is working on a liquid cooling system for inside chip packages. Chip packages are those blue/brown plastic sleeves that surround semiconductors and let them plug into a board. When you look at a chip, you’re really looking at the package.
In this system, a chilling liquid would circulate in silicon channels and absorb heat as it passes over hot spots. A rotating component (pictured) would circulate the liquid so that it could absorb heat, release the heat away from the component, and re-enter the channels.

Researchers at the University of Illinois created a virtual pendulum and a real world counterpart that behaves as the world’s first mixed reality system. Bidirectional instantaneous coupling, adjustments both to the real world pendulum by motor feedback and the virtual pendulum by tweaking mathematical parameters, yielded a single system in which both systems’ are synchronized. The result is two pendulums swinging as one.

The high-performance version of the Lightning GT will dash to 60 MPH in less than 4 seconds. LCC claims that a less powerful, extended-range model will have a driving range of 250 miles — expect the range for the 700 HP version to be far less.
The sleek Lightning GT will feature a lightweight body constructed of Kevlar composites and carbon fiber. The vehicle features a tubular spaceframe backbone chassis, while 20″ cast aluminum wheels connect to the independent front and rear suspension.
LCC is currently taking £15,000 ($30,000 USD) deposits for those looking to get their hands on a Lightning GT. The full price for the vehicle is reported to be in the $300,000 USD range — about three times that of the Tesla Roadster.

The master plan for the Chuo Shinkansen bullet train system was finalized based on the Law for Construction of Countrywide Shinkansen. The Linear Chuo Shinkansen Project aims to realize this plan through utilization of the Superconductive Magnetically Levitated Train, which connects Tokyo and Osaka by way of Nagoya, the capital city of Aichi in approximately one hour at a speed of 500km/h.

The Cassini space probe will soon complete its four-year primary mission to study Saturn, its rings, and its moons. Though close to its June completion, the Cassini mission’s operators will be busy today, as the spacecraft makes a very close flyby of one of Saturn’s more interesting moons, Enceladus

A recent study done by the IDC puts the total amount of data stored throughout the world today in numbers. Last years total data weighed in at approximately 281 exabytes, or 281,000,000 terabytes, which is about a 56% increase over the previous year’s 180 exabyte data count.
However, according to IDC, the world’s data will reach an astounding 1.80 zettabytes in 2011, about 10 times the data stored in 2006.
